Katherine Kramer Projects at Primrose Retreat

The Welcome Mat is at the door!

At the heart of my work is a desire to bring people together, to encourage intimacy, and to promote the value of play as a tool in creating a more humane world.

Interview with the Library for the Performing Arts

Dancer Katherine Kramer was in the vanguard of the renaissance of New York’s tap dance scene in the 1970’s. She recently spoke about her history reviving the tradition of tap dance in the city and worldwide through her mentorship with Ralph Brown, legendary dancer and performer whose papers are preserved by the Library for the Performing Arts.

This interview with Kramer is just a preview of a several hours-long conversation between the Library’s Jenai Cutcher and Kramer for the Jerome Robbins Dance Division’s Dance Oral History Project.

Catch the full interview with Jenai and Katherine in their archive soon!

Residency at Western Kentucky University

“What an amazing week dancers, both in and out of the WKU Dance Program, had with our guest artist residency with Katherine Kramer.  The studios were filled with incredible knowledge in lecture courses, movement explorations, all levels of Tap technique and Jazz technique.  The rehearsal process with tappers in the WKU Dance Company provided a wonderful learning experience as well as a new choreography set on them by Katherine.  Don’t miss it!  This work will premiere at our MainStage concert; Evening of Dance, in April.”

You can see the tradition in her work, but she’s also stretching the concept of tap dance.
